No Remuneration for 4 months

Goodday,
Please could you give me a bit of advice on a very sore matter that my Son has gone through now for 4 months, He started with a company in March this year, was given a company vehicle to get to work and back as he stays 30 km away from work in another town,
In June this year the company vehicle broke down and he offered to fix it, whereby he stripped the vehicle and told his boss what parts it needed, during this time period I was working in the same town and he travelled with me to work in the mornings and back in the evenings.
In September my Company moved to my hometown and he was unable to travel with me any longer, he requested his employer to help him with petrol to get to work and back but it fell on deaf ears.
Then at the end of August they were not paid a salary without any notice for the employer, after begging for more info on when they will be paid his boss kept saying next week, next week. It has now been 4 months since all the employees of that company last received a salary (Their last salary was end of July 2015) Due to having no money and the company vehicle still waiting for spares my son had no way of getting to work and sent his boss a message every day requesting help with petrol to get to work. In the meantime his boss sold the company vehicle as is and the buyer fetched it from our house, my son then contacted his boss and asked if he could just pay a little in for them to buy milk and nappies for the baby, he said he would, up till now he still hasn’t paid anything in its been two weeks and his excuse is he hasn’t had time…..

Today my son was offered his old job back where he was working before and has accepted it as he cannot go any longer without a salary as he is married with 2 babies, but he is still entitled to the outstanding 4 months salary his previous employer owes him, which amounts to R60 000, I have spoken to the office ladies and they are just as upset as they are working and also haven’t been paid in 4 months.

My question is how do we approach this matter? The new job my son is in now will not allow for any days off for now as he has to do a 3 month probation period again so he cannot take the time off to go to CCMA, Is there a way the labour department can go and do an inspection of the company and request bank statements where the employees were last paid, and they can do something about the fact that they haven’t received a single cent for the last 4 months.

I have also approached a lawyer who said we can summons them for the outstanding money, in your opinion what would be the best route to follow.

Please could you respond ASAP as we would like to have this matter solved.
