Fraudulent Debt Collector

I have gotten phone calls with follow-up letters from Stoneleigh Recovery Associates saying I owe money to First Union National Bank, formerly owned by Nationwide Holdings Group. I have never heard of either company. I knew the claim was fraudulent right away. The first phone call to me was on Friday, Nov. 18, around 8 p.m. I thought it was odd that a business would call then especially since it lists its Friday working hours from 8 am to 5 p.m. on the letter.

The man who called me sounded very fishy. Didn't really know anything about my account, couldn't answer any questions about this claim and said quite abruptly if I didn't resolve the matter on the phone (give them my credit card number) I would receive a letter. I get the letter one week later, Nov.25. Then a phone call exactly one week later and again on a Friday, Dec. 2. Same song; letter number 2 should arrive tomorrow (Friday, Dec. 16).

So I called the Federal Trade Commission and filed a detailed complaint. Among many other things, the person whom I spoke with at the FTC said the reason the letter says because of the age of my debt it won't be reported to any credit agencies and the loaner cannot sue me is so that the consumer won't call or get his/her credit report and see that this fraudulent defaulted credit is not listed in my report.

I advise everyone to report this company to the FTC because the more complaints the more the government will be prompted to investigate. And let's hope that with the incoming presidential administration agencies like the FTC won't be reduced to nothing as so many other departments will potentially be. The FTC phone number is 877.382.4357. My phone experience was very positive. The waiting time was very brief and I spoke with someone who could actually take the time to get all the info and enter it into the Commission's database. I hope no one was scammed.

Fraudulent/Unlawful Practices

I have been a victim of the same scam by Stoneleigh Recovery Associates, LLC! They sent me a letter stating that I had a line of credit from the HSN for $1,192.32. They were collecting a debt from back in October of 1999. After speaking to a very rude customer service rep, I demanded to speak to the manager, and she told me all the managers were in a meeting. I decided to call HSN who never heard of this company, doesn't use social security numbers, and don't give lines of credit! HSN requested I send a copy of this letter immediately. As a consumer, I am very angry, frustrated, and scared that someone is misusing my personal information!! They have my social security number!! IT IS TIME THAT WE TAKE A STAND AGAINST FAKE COMPANIES such as STONELEIGH RECOVERY ASSOCIATES, LLC!! This is EXTORTION!! DON"T BE A VICTIM!

Fraudulent/Unlawful Collection Practices

Stoneleigh Recovery Services has made several fraudulent and unlawful attempts over the last two years to recover an invalid debt from me. By one after another, this unscrupulous entity attempts to dupe consumers into paying debts that they really do not owe. Frankly, it smells like a Nigerian scam, like the one I saw on "Dateline."

These scoundrels need to be arrested and deported!
