Official Reciepts for inheriting investments

My husband passed away and left his investments to me. My accountant told me that I should have received an official receipt from Sun Life or I would have to pay over $40,000.00 in taxes this year. I phone to the person on the last correspondence I had received from them and she was very nice. Told me she would contact the department that should have sent the receipt ASAP. I was happy. Then I waited over two weeks for the receipts to come in and nothing. So I phoned again. I got an answering machine. I waited two days for a reply and nothing so I phoned again and again, every two days for 3 1/2 weeks, and still not reply. Now I was furious. I needed the papers as I had to get my taxes in and I didn't want a fine from the gov't never mind paying them $40,000.00. I tried phoning again and requesting the papers. Then I decided that I didn't want to talk to a machine that didn't reply so I found a Sun Life Office in my area. I relayed my story to them and they were sympathetic, but my investments weren't through their company. They then proceeded to tell me that their office would phone the person I was dealing with and request the papers. They did this and phoned me back immediately saying that the person I was dealing with would phone me by the end of the day. Again I was happy and relieved. The person never phoned so I phoned back to the office near me and they were surprised and again offered to phone and speak to Sun Life. I got a call back immediately from the office near me saying the woman would phone me in 24 hrs. So I stayed home from work, I waited two days and still nothing so again I phoned to the office near me. They told me they would see why she wasn't responding to my request. I apologized for my negativity and said that I am going to pull all my investments out. They were really nice and told me they would phone again. This time I got an phoned call from a "Human" and she told me to give her until Wednesday to get the papers together and email them to me. I was leaving on holidays on Wednesday so needed to have this problem finished. This was on Friday. Late Wednesday afternoon I got a phone call to say that she had emailed the receipts to me. I went to check and she had only emailed me one of the two receipts needed. I phone her back immediately and told her that I needed two separate receipts and her response was, "My error, I have the second receipt on my computer so I will email it to you right away." I did receive the second receipt that day. I am so angry at this department and what I had to go through. I had huge anxiety attack and was constantly crying over the situation. The company near me was so helpful, they sent me a representative and I have transferred my investment over to their company now. At least I can guarantee I will get a "human" to talk to when needed and not an answering machine that never calls back. Thank you Pitt Meadows Sun Life.

Life insurance conversion denial

be careful. When i left my employer I was sent a form for life insurance conversion to personal pay as opposed to company pay. I did all that was required and Sun Life mishandled the claim.

When I went to change beneficiary they told me I did not have life insurance. When I explained the situation and proved to their satisfaction I was truthful in my situation they continued to time bar me as more than 31 days lapsed since my employment ceased. Note it was Sun Life that failed to execute on the application and yet they are hold me accountable for them not processing my application.

Be careful with all insurance co. but I can only advise you to be careful in dealing with Sun Life and if you need to decide who to place your business with and you need to pick one, pick anyone other than Sun Life would be my recommendation

Note: this is the first time I have ever posted a warning against any business and for what it is worth I am a CPA and a CHRP designated professional. Be very very careful and the dispute resolution process with Sun Life is wanting..........

SunLife

I have sun life benefits through my workplace. My issue is with their so called approved "provider " list. My coverage states that there is coverage for Clinical counselling. I submitted my claim, they requested a mail in invoice, which is another complaint- in this day and age, we have to mail in invoices? we can't scan and email them or? , so I mailed it in and then it is denied as they say my provider is not covered as per my coverage. After a lot of frustration, and phone calls wasted, they tell me there are two associations that the provider must belong to one of to qualify. My provider does belong to both and noted both her numbers on the receipt. My employer tells me that it is not covered because my provider is not part of these associations, which she does. I call sun life and they tell me that she may be but she is not on their provider list... I look at their provider list and it says that they do not recommend or not recommend any of these providers and that the list might change at will and always have to call first to check. this makes no sense- If the provider is qualified and has a number, an insurance company should be able to find this information. Sun life did then tell me to have my provider call them to be added to this miracle list. I don't think that is a job of a counsellor to have to do. They also offered that I should change providers and go to one of their list, the one that may or not still be valid. I am not going to change counsellors due to this, clearly that is stupid. Much like if you were going to a dentist or doctor and had a long relationship with them, and suddenly sun life decides they don't want that person on their list... This is just a way to not pay for something, and our benefits are limited as is. Very frustrating experience, given that I chose to go to our local counselling center, staffed by Masters level clinical counsellors, and at half the rate of anywhere, am just irked. Now I am waiting to see when the counsellor can spare time to call and see if this can get resolved. Just more stress.

Sun Life

Aside from the obvious of retaining a lawyer..being forced to go thro a lengthy process of litigation ..stress and untold frustration..is there no governing organization in Canada to oversee these lisenced criminals??..any suggestions??

Single premium Life Insurance

Trying to terminate my policy! I have no desire to terminate it! Not being clear on why asking for additional fees when paid or how it is determined a "Single Premium" like the policy type states. Making bad investments with the premium I paid. No choice in deciding the investments. Very bad company! The Better Business Bureau should be aware of them!

Long Term Disability

I have been on Ltd for 3 years now and had my Cppd approved well over a year ago. I suffered a severe and debilitating injury that has been documented by both my surgeon and physiatrist . The Canadian Government has acknowledged that my injury is a severe and prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions. I struggle each day to manage my pain and quality of life. I as all of you feel as though were a burden to our family and friends..As of Jan 2016 Sunlife is requesting a form to be filled out by both your doctor and the patient.. I asked why and was not given a answer other than it was a new policy.. I could accept this if they had a cure or new treatments for my injury but they don't ...that's why they call them severe and prolonged..I don't always see my
physiatrist every 6 months so this is a added cost to me which Sunlife has indicated they wont pay for....I'm also wondering if this can be defined as a type of harassment against disabled people

Long Term Disability

I have been on LTD for almost 2 years after suffering a massive stroke on 3/4/14 in which I was paralyzed on my entire right side and I'm still suffering partial paralysis where I still cannot drive or write with my right hand. They request for me to send in paperwork every six months expecting me to magically recover when I don't know when or if I'll make a full recovery. I'm getting very frustrated because I cannot write and they want me to fill out an entire packet of information and my doctor sent them the same information as well. I need to find out how I can be classified as 100% unable to work since I have a legitimate disability from my stroke.

bullies and harassment is sunlife

Why don't we form an organization or movement to fight harassment of this sunlife people. We know that they are playing tactics and ripping us off. According to reliable source, Sunlife cas managers gets commission or bonus each time they get successful in cutting you off from being paid your benefits. So there you go, if we don't fight these scams and manipulation that they are doing to the sick people, they will just continue to do their immoral ways and dirty tactics of cutting off the benefits of poor sick people. We hope that the government will also do a bill to protect the right of the sick people being harassed by Sunlife. Don't support sunlife!!!

CUT OFF LONG TERM DISABILITY

I was cut off my LTD this month. They are stating I can still work. My doctor has issued MRI and CAT Scan reports explaining I need shoulder and back surgery. I am in so much pain and am not able to work as I can barely walk due to severe stenosis in my back. I have 2 tears in my rotator cuff and a tear in my shoulder. I have seen the surgeon for my shoulder and I am waiting for my surgery date. I have a surgeons appointment for my back in November 2014. It is absolutely ridiculous, I have paid into my LTD for over 16 years and when I need it the most they decide to cut me off. I have been off for two years now as I had surgery ACDF on my neck due to severe pain from my neck down my arm. I need help! I have contacted Sunlife and still no reply to my calls. Who do I contact because I want to sue them

my auto insurance cut me off after paying 6yrs

was innocent in auto acciedent, other party paid 500k, my insurance cut me off after paying disability for 6 yrs,....that was a year and a half now I have to take my insurance to court, this is causing financial stress, my case was proven hands down,,,why do I have to go through this when I was insured, I lost my job of 150k a yr, I don,t know why they are allowed to do this when I proved the other party was guilty and I had payment over six years, my insurance changed my case worker and the new one is trying to clean the books at my expence and stress....THIS IS NOT FAIR, HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS

I don't have a complaint. I read all of these and wonder if we are working with the same company. I was on long term disablty with them and after getting on my ss disabilty approved the offered me a fair settlement aggrement. Even ovenighted the check to me when I said I was hoping to get but a certain date.

Iam going through the same thing they put off and put off if a doctor says you are disabled then the insurance should pay what a rip off, scamming company I see they will squirm there way out but I will send my emplorer to this forun just to see what they are wasting money on

Short Term Disability Benefits

I fully agree with the comments. Every month they cut of my benefits and I must jump through hoops to satisfy them. This month I'm told that I must return to work regardless of my broken right foot, 3 herniated disks in my back, a partially torn tendon in my shoulder, arthritis in my hands and feet, and Fibromyalgia. I have a cast on my right foot and I'm not sure how I'm supposed to drive my car to work let alone walk the distance into the building. In the US there is a law firm handling these complaints. Anyone in Canada?

Short Term Disability Benefits

Had the same problems with Sunlife for LTD. Had general health problems stress, severe anxiety, a hearing disorder that gave me frequent dizziness and fluctuating hearing with balance problems. They kept on sending me for evaluation, every time i did i would get stress and my symtoms would get worst. For long term disability, the cause was you had to be totally disable, since i was able to do some things but not for a long duration i was deemed not totally disabled. But of course, how can one work with frequent headaches and dizzi spell specially when one get tire easily and how can one recover if they keep on sending you to be stressed out.. Doctors are also a problem when you have a rare misunderstood condition. They also send you to their own psychologist and you get this rediculus reports about possible faking of conditions...can you imagine. All this will get a person so stress out and would not recover. I gave up my LTD claim in 2007 hoping to recover from my problems. I also loss my position as a design engineer. But before i cannot walk the length of wallmart before having to sit down on a chair. Yes i gave up my claim, Yes i loss my prestigious job as a design engineer of gas turbine engines for Rolls Royce. But im alive. These people know when you are at your weakest you cannot defend yourself and if you do not have help sometimes its better to stay alive. I give it to god the justice they deserve.
