Regarding our awful experience at the condo we rented for a weekend from Wyndham Vacation Rentals (WVR):
On Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 my husband, Dan, and I presented ourselves, as directed, to WVR’s office in Freshfields Village, SC to pick up the keys to the condo we had contracted to rent in Mariner’s Watch, Kiawah Island. When we arrived at the condo, we were unpleasantly surprised to discover that it was a climb of over 20 steps from the parking lot. It would have been nice to know that in advance as my husband uses a cane to get around. At first glance, all appeared to be in order. That night we discovered that the bed should have been replaced years ago as we had to fight the hammock effect that wanted us to sleep smooshed together in a trough in the center. We were annoyed but soldiered on. We were there for a wedding, not a lengthy stay.
On Sunday the 19th, we were preparing to leave the next morning. I tried to use the rusted washing machine out on the porch but couldn’t get it to work. There were no instructions. I was irritated because I had already prepped the clothes inside for spots, and they were wet. I let it ride. That lasted until I found that I could no longer open the safe in our bedroom closet which had been working fine all weekend until just now. All my valuables were inside. I called maintenance and was assured that a repairman would arrive in about half an hour. Supposedly he was at another job nearby and was expected to soon be free. Fine. The clock was ticking as we had dinner plans with our sons, their families, and our grandchildren. We were very much looking forward to this as we seldom get to see everyone together in one place. It was to be our Thanksgiving meal together, the first in many years.
It was late afternoon. I had called yet again about the maintenance man and had been reassured. As we waited, I loaded up the dishwasher to wash, as was specifically required by our contract. It would not start!
Another call. Nothing to do but wait. While waiting, we turned on the TV in the living room which we had not used up to this point. A message appeared on the screen saying we were not connected to the server. Did not work. Another call. Our contact person was gone for the day; we were connected to someone else out of state who knew absolutely nothing about our troubles. However, she assured us that maintenance would be there sometime the very next morning. We, however, by contract, had to have our keys turned in at WVR ‘s town office no later than 10:00 AM. Meanwhile, you may remember, all my valuables were still stuck in the locked safe!
We had to cancel our family get-together. Finally, hours after our initial call, two fellas arrived. It seems they had been well over an hour away at a family gathering of their own when they first received the call, not on another job, not even on the island. They were very nice. They were able to pry the safe open. By that time, we didn’t care about anything else. We were only looking forward to leaving that place!
I can only say that it was the worst experience I have ever had in rentals. I cannot explain how very angry I was, and how I felt we had been duped by this awful company. Put yourself in our place; the bed, the washing machine, the dishwasher, the TV, the lies, the SAFE! Would you think they were entitled to full price? Because we do not.
Very truly yours,
Dan and Georgia Goodman

This rental was charged to American Express and they refused to back our complaint. I wonder why??

We charged this rental with American Express and they have bailed out on us.
