SO annoyed with these scammers

I'm so annoyed with Great American Readers. I have the same story repeated over and over here. First they make it sound like it is so cheap to get magazines and you count it and it's 16.00 a month, and at the end they start charging 49.90!!! like where did that number even come from! Also I don't think I was charged 16 something from them since the beginning it was always more than that like 24 or something and then 49.90. Then I tried to cancel but they don't let you cancel. Like what are you talking about? I have to be able to cancel magazine subscription. It doesn't make any sense that they don't let you do that. They kept calling me and taking money out. So I went to the bank and the banker called them and realized they are not providing any information and just want to take money. So she said that I just need to change debit card. I did. Now I receive these annoying calls either from them or from debt collectors (which I believe are also scammers). They are rude, talk to you like a piece of shit, mock you and twist your words to anything that could sound good to them. They don't introduce themselves when they call, they just ask for me by my name. Then when I ask them who it is they either tell me right away they can't give me any information about themselves unless they get my name, or they just say "intercom collector's office" (or something like that) and then keep talking about great american readers. I told them it was a scam and they were scamming me but it's like they don't listen to me and tell me that I have to pay because I signed for it. They say: Do you want us to help you or not? I told them that it doesn't seem like help at all that they aren't trying to understand me that those people are scamming me. So I came to a conclusion those who call from so named collector's office and talk about great american readers are probably also a scam. I just blocked american reader's numbers a while ago and also don't pick up numbers I don't know, Unless I'm waiting for someone's call

ALSO! Has anyone solved the problem? like figured out how to get rid of their magazines, or them calling you, or taking your money out? OR everyone is just ignoring them all?

Great American Readers

I also took a screwing from GAR. I was told on the phone that I was paying $49.90 for a 5yr script I got a statement for $49.90 a month for 5 years. I have not received a single magazine or the $250.00 Gift card bundle pack. I will never understand how people can be so dang heartless. Chalk it up to lesson learned I guess. If there is a law suit I want in.

Great American Readers Service

I became a victim of this company also. When I try to call them, I am told someone will be right with me and then they say "Thanks, Good-bye". I can't get an address except 457 Sebastian Blvd (but no city). I have paid 49.90 a month since October 2017. My bank told me to just get a new bank card number which I did. But now I have to go to every place I have an account and change my account number.

I would be glad to join a class action suit if someone starts one.

Great American Readers/fraud/deception

After reading all these complaints, my situation is the same. Caught me off guard and said that I ordered 5 magazines for 5 YEARS! No way. I tried calling them and to cancel the magazines and any order they think I placed, no phone number to begin with then after I received my bank statement and noticed $40 being deducted then I called them and had to cancel my bank card to stop the monthly deductions. After 6 months a debt collector starts calling me and demanding I owed over $500 for magazines. I did not order magazines and they send magazines I would NEVER order nor interested in. I repeatedly requested cancellation and after telling me I could only cancel within the first 72 hours and of course, was not told any of that originally. Then months later now the debt collector will reduce the amount I owe to about half of what they claim was the total amount. I told the lady NO - I cancelled and refused anything they claim I ordered, but to no avail. They are nasty, aggressive, liars, fraudulent and deceitful. This is bordering ILLEGAL.

I wish to be added to any lawsuit against them. They did get about $200 out of me the first few months when I thought I was dealing with a company of competence and repeatedly requested cancellation or tried calling them to no avail. There is no number and nothing of the name for the first 3 months, they intentionally wait until a few months have gone by before you receive anything from them and by that time they tell you that you only could cancel within the first 72 hours and so now you are sunk! Their debt collector company says you owe them all this money for magazines for a period of 5 years to the tune of over $500.00. No one would sign up for this. I called them fraudulent and scammers and they say they have me on recordings. Okay, each and every time I say NO and I cancelled what they said is an agreement. I never signed anything. I gave them my cc information because the first call was that I won a gift card, I was in my car and was stupid. It will never ever happen again. But nothing about a 5 year subscription and owing them over $500. SCAM, BE AWARE!

Refusing to cancel subscription despite identity theft

I recently started receiving magazines in my name with a charge to my stolen debit card in the amount of $39.00. Then about a 2 months later I received a collection notice saying I owed $54.90 plus a $15 late fee. With a total balance due of $54.90. I called the number on the letter to explain that I didn't sign up for such subscription only to be told very rudly that it is not possible to cancel the membership, no matter what the reason is. That is absolutely RIDICULOUS! I've never heard of a company that will not cancel a subscription. I called my bank and they told me that the card was no longer active so I could choose to ignore them or try to contact them again and explain the situation. However I now have 3 phone calls a day (starting at 8:00 am. My husband works 3rd, so ringing phone is a nuisance) from (866)704-5419- the finance department at the company. I don't even read magazines!

Fraud

This great American readers executives should be fished out and prosecuted.
I was told I won a gift card of $250 . I was excited so when they requested for my details as per my card I obliged them. They also offered 5 magazines for $3.99 . Funny enough I did not see any gift card but they kept deducting money from my account.
I called to cancel this deduction but it fell on deaf ears. Now my debit card is expired and my host told me that they sent my file to debt collectors. Unfortunately for them I was just a visitor to the US with no threat to my credits.
These scampers must be stopped. They are running the integrity of the American system.

Scams

I read the complaints about GAR. Thank you for informing others about this scam. I suggest you contact your state Attorney General. In Minnesota we have an outstanding Attorney General, Lori Swanson. She will hold a company accountable. Good luck.

Great American Readers is a scam full of cruel human beings

Over a year ago I stupidly signed up for a service in order to receive a $500 dollar gift card. They were extremely nice at the time of signup, and told me that I could cancel if it was necessary somewhere down the line. They asked for all of my info, including my email address.

Fast-forward 9 months and at this point I've lost my old phone and number due to a hardware malfunction, and I no longer have the phone number. I also moved, and never received any magazines or even statements to my old address. I ended up completely losing contact with the, but figured that since they had my email, they would send me a message if needed.

One day, I get a weird $39.90 charge to my account out of nowhere with no info in my statement about it other than the name READERES SERVICE. No number to can, nothing. So I called my bank and they were as confused as I was, but there wasn't anything I could do, as it was an authorized company pulling the money. So I checked my email to see if there was a message with the same descriptor. Nothing. I was simply out $40.

This has continued for almost 6 months now, and I finally got a statement with a customer service number. I called and told them I wanted to cancel. I was connected to a young man named Sam, who proceeded to tell me that I couldn't cancel, as my account had been sent to collections. I asked if there was any way to extend the pay period but lower the monthly payment at the very least, and he told me that it wasn't an option. I could "negotiate a settlement plan", but I took that to mean that they would be shortening the payment period, but also charging me more (if I can't afford the random $40, why would I be able to pay more?).

At this point I'm very frustrated and have come to the conclusion that they won't be willing to change anything and there's nothing else I can do I thank him for taking my call, and as I'm preparing to hang up, he has the audacity to say, "Wait, why are you thanking me? You never solved anything." I was livid, and told him that if there was no way to lower the payment at all and I couldn't cancel, then there was nothing else to be done and I saw no reason to keep talking. So very rudely, he say, "Okay, I'll put a note in your account saying that you refused to negotiate the terms of your account and agree to a settlement." I'm about to reply with "wait, what" when I realized, the exact moment he finished the word 'settlement', HE HUNG UP ON ME!

I have never felt so disrespected in my life by a company, and if there is a class-action lawsuit against these fuc*ers, I WANT IN. They shouldn't be able to get away with this kind of abuse. My email is [email protected], if anyone needs to contact me about this matter.

Took my money when i said no to charging my account more than they first said it would cost.

On the phone they saidi would get a 250.00 gift card. For 3.00 and change. Per week and that would get me 5 magazines. That totaled around 16.00 a month. Than after i gave them my card # he said it was 49.90! I said no im not agreeing to that. Cancel my order. His name is nathan. Said he would drop it down to around 30.00 i said no. To cancel it all. He didnt. And said im allready charged. Than they chargedme 49.90!

Great American Readers

Well I just got called at work and harassed by these people. I have called numerous times to cancel with them telling me I couldn't cancel. I told them I wanted to return the magazines as I haven't looked at any of them and don't want anymore. They also said I couldn't cancel at any time and now I can't I agreed to it. No I did not. They said they had a recording of me agreeing when asked to produce this recording I got the run around. I really don't appreciate being harassed at my job and I really want these people to quit sending me magazines I don't want them the are a waste of my time. If you could please help that would be awesome.
.
Sincerely Cassie

Refused to cancel when they earlier said I could

I made the mistake of listening to these people and trying to be nice...

I was told I could try some magazines, and cancel at any time if it looks like I would not be happy with them. But when I called back and tried to cancel they refused - they did cut what they were charging me down by half, but then I called them back and clearly told them I wanted to CANCEL everything - stop charging me, and stop sending the magazines.

They refused, so when I spoke to my Bank they told me the only way to stop them from charging my accounting was to cancel my debit card - it was a major pain, but I took the step and cancelled my debit card.

Now they are sending me nasty letters saying I owe them the money, plus late fees, or they will send it to "collections"

I called them again today at 800-269-4179 at 11:30 CT (5/31) and spoke to a supervisor named Randy, and she was VERY RUDE. She told me that nothing I had to say mattered; that if I wanted the magazines to stop, that I needed to pay off the total account.

I don't remember entering into any type of contract with these people - I do remembering them telling me I could cancel at any time, and these dam magazines are worthless to me. My best advice to is ALWAYS hang up the phone on anyone selling ANYTHING. You never know when you might get caught up by assholes like this.

Please let me know if there is any class action work against these jerks = [email protected]

Taking more money then I agreed too

They were pushy I really didn't want to do it so they said they would bill me monthly. They said they would skip February and the I wouldn't be charge til the end of April. It got confusing. Wish I didn't do it. I look at my account on line and they took the 49 something out. So I got into my card settings and disabled my debit card. I'll get a new one. That way at least they can't take more.

Great American readers SCAM

If this goes to a class action lawsuit include me... [email protected]. Wtf- I google something and this shit pops up saying I won a 1000 dollar gift card and wants my contact info to send the winning card " and I never win shit " so I give my info. Then they call me saying I won the gift card and also have a chance at a 3.80 dollar a week 5 magazine subscription. So I agree to that and they are gonna mail me the packet with the cards and to choose which magazines. 49.00 was taken outta my account immediately- this is a rotten scam!!! You google something and there's this timer going off saying you have 3 minutes to select which 1000 gift card etc. then it leads to this- a 900 dollar credit card scam.

Scam

This company called "great american readers" claims I made an order for magazines; 5 magazines for an agreed time fram of 5 years. I am on social security disability and I do not have extra income to blow on magazines. these people are rude, condescending, and unprofessional. the only thing I do over the internet that can be considered "purchases" is on a game I play online.

Fraud, rude , immortal SOB's

That it sounded good and didn't think twice about giving it a shot but im also not stupid i have them a prepaid card number that is active knowing that I had little to no funds on the card just to be safe because the guy that I spoke with said that they would wait to run the card until the 1st when my disability money hits my account and that I would transfer money to the prepaid card to cover the $3.90 well the next day I went to check the prepaid card and they tried to run it three or four times each time failed I knew it would got a call from them saying that somehow I was committing fraud and that they had everything on recording told them I wanted to cancel my subscription and I want nothing to do with any company or anybody that's going to be fraudulent and screw people over and take what little bit they have and lie. Then I was hung up on for saying that I called back to make sure that my subscription was cancelled even though I cancelled every card number I give in to them just to be on the safe side because I know how scammers are and the lady informed me that phone call is being recorded and then she was going to press charges because I was being threatening very little to her surprise did she not know that I was also recording the conversation after she found that out she cancel my subscription finally started to apologize for any inconvenience that they may have caught us and that it was never their intention I told her you're full of shit this is what I'll do don't do it everyday and I will not be the last through to anybody who thinks that this is true and that this is going to work do not risk it you will end up screwed over in the end and then a lot worse ways and what you can probably imagine because they have your information so if you do want to try only use a prepaid card that way they do not have any direct access to your bank do your debit or credit card but to my suggestion don't write it off they are rude and inconsiderate and are only have to get people's money

Great American Readers- RIPOFF

I received a call today from Great American Readers saying I won a $250.00 gift card so I (Stupidly) gave them my information even though they already had my name, birthday, email and address (I figured it was because I signed up for free stuff online) so I didn't put 2 and 2 together until they told me I had to choose 5 magazines and that I had to pay $3.90 a week for the magazine's and that after they receive the first payment they will send me my $250 gift card. They charged my account immediately after I spoke to them even though I agreed to make the payment the following week. I was stupid and gullible to think I actually won something and that it was a great deal for the magazines. I called my bank and told them i was scammed so they blocked my card and sent me a new one, they can try and take more money from me but it won't happen! The phone number they gave me was bogus, I called it and it asked for my account #, I put my account # in and it says my account # doesn't exist. This company is a huge scam, I should have looked online before giving them my information but thank goodness my bank took care of the issue and blocked my account from them. Be careful guys! If it's too good to be true it probably is!!!

Fraudulent Company

Was told I would receive a $250 gift card if I buy a few (4) magazines. The list I received did not have any magazines I wanted to I did not order any. I never received the $250 gift card so I thought it was a done deal - no gift card and no magazines. Boy was I wrong!!! I started receiving all these magazines that I NEVER ordered and then started receiving phone calls to pay my bill. I told them I never ordered any magazines and they said, basically, that I was a liar and I did order them. Nevertheless, I never paid and told them I wanted to cancel but so far it landed on deaf ears. NOW I received a bill for $698.60 and if I don't pay they will send it debt collection and ruin my credit!!! I've tried to find their website but the only thing about Great American Readers is the complaint websites. I've call the phone number on the bill and, so far, I've gotten a recording that their office is closed to call back during regular working times, which they don't state, and to leave a message. So far I've heard NOTHING!!! There has got to be something we, as consumers, can do to keep this fraud/scam happening to other people. Do we have to file a class action lawsuit against them??? We need help!

Great American Readers

I just got off the phone with them because they hung up on me when I asked to hear the audio for the sales person talking to me about what I thought I was buying. Is there anyone that can help me with getting a refund? I thought I was getting a $250 cash card and another card that would save me money at many of the store I shop at. I thought the magazines were just an added benefit. The first person I spoke with was Randy Baker who said she was a supervisor after I asked to speak to one. She played parts of some audio I remember saying because I was told exactly what to say beforehand I kept asking her to play the audio of me with the sales person to show what I thought I was buying but she kept giving me the run around. Eventually I told her I either wanted to speak with her supervisor or I wanted a full refund and she told me there was nothing she could do for me that she couldn’t do herself. So I again asked for a refund and was refused. Which lead me to adamantly request her supervisor get on the line. Her supervisor told me she was new and didn’t know how to play the recordings but she would get right on it. So I thanked her and an audio file played for about 5 seconds before it went blank. I waited for another couple minutes asking hello and hoping for a response and then the line was disconnected. Once I was cut off I looked up there company online and saw I couldn’t even find their website because of all the complaints and negative write ups that were online. I immediately called them back and told them I wanted to be refunded the money they took from me thus far because I do not do business with these types of companies. The women said I should have looked this up before I gave them my credit card information. I told her I was canceling my card and she told me she was going to ruin my credit and one way or another they were going to get paid. Can you please help me?
