24hr Lifetime Membership Scam

Exactly same victim story of everyone, I paid upfront fee of $600 for lifetime membership of $79.00. roughly after 10 years it's now $144.99. I was promised it will never increase.

I thought there was a lawsuit regarding legality of non stop yearly increase for those who have this lifetime membership contract. if anyone has update, can you let us know if this succeed or failed or still going on. this malpractice needs to stop
thanks

Life time mebership lie!

Back in 2008 I bought the Prepaid for I believe 3 years then after my renewal would be 49.99 for life. That is what i was told and that was in my contract. I have been struggling to attain my contract from 24. 2 years ago they doubled my yearly premium without telling me. I have struggled for 2 years to have this dealt with. Being lied to is not ok. I recently received a letter about a class action Lawsuit regarding this huge lie. I recommend whoever is a victim of this fraud look it up or you should of received in mail!

Initial fee & Annual Fee

In the early October of 2017, I went into 24 hours fitness store, planned to buy a lifetime membership as for my son's birthday present. The sales told me, they do not offer "Lifetime" membership any more. Instead, you pay "only" 1 dollar a day and "you are lucky that today is the last day of promotion of initial fee $50 to be waved and you can cancel it anytime, get refund for the remaining unused date." Therefore, I've signed him up and paying the monthly due ($30). Up to today (Jan. 14, 2018) my son only went 3 times, it's really a waste of money, so I was planning to cancel his membership.
The beginning of January 2018, to my shock, my card was charged an "annual fee" of $50.00. I've call 24 hours, and been told that "Yes, every year member will be charge $50 said on the contract." NO, there was no contract signed, I was only given a receipt. "It was send to your email", NO never see it. NEVER been told about this annual fee at the time of sign up. "I'm sorry about this, but, this annual fee can not be refund even if you did not use the facility at all for this year."
After this incident, I am amazed, how many complains about 24 hours fitness has posted online. Is there anyway or anyone wants to gather another petition to again 24 hours on this issue?
Recently, 24 hours "lifetime" members just received a settlement ruled by court that they have you refund and or get reduce renewal fee.
Maybe, there are many people has the same experience like mine.

Highly Unethical

24's executives were well aware that they were scamming people out of their lifetime membership. They took the risk, and now it's going to cost the company roughly $20M to clean it up. Unfortunately, the head of "ethics" VP of Compliance and the CFO knew about this, and let it all happen. I'm glad that the people of Orange County fought this corporate bullying, and won their suit!

24hr fitness membership scam

I bought an all club membership way back in 1997
Over the years they started creating different tiers in their clubs and now I have no clubs near by house that I can go to. They want me to pay 4 times my current monthly amount to upgrade to super sport and claim that I am on an active membership. So what I bought as all club membership is now limited to hardly any clubs that exist today. After paying them for 20 years they are not willing to accommodate anything and give me a reasonable price. They are stuck on their price and are showing the "take it or leave it attitude"
There is no appreciation for 20 years of loyalty and they don't care if I cancel. It is quite sad that this is the customer experience they believe in.
They should be sued for this kind of practice as well since you cannot sell a service and then create a scenario where it does not exist anymore and you have to pay more to use an upgraded version.

Lifetime membership a LIE

IT HAS TO BE ILLEGAL TO VERBALLY LIE TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE LIKE THIS!!!

My story is similar to many people's stories. I purchased a "lifetime" membership in 2005 for $700 and in 3 years a $49 annual renewal fee, I was VERBALLY told about this contract and signed the papers. I've actually read my original contract, stating in the signed documents no increase in dues for life! In 2009 I paid my renewal due of $49 and forgot about it. A month or so later I get denied access to the gym because they said I didn't pay my dues and cancelled my account! I showed them my bank account statement, they apologize saying the money must have been applied to a different account. That makes no sense!!! So they have me resign my gym membership paperwork and allowed me to have my membership back. I didn't read the new contract...no one told me it was different. I assumed I was signing my original contract!!! In 2016 I get a notice that my renewal fee was going up to $100, that's more than 100%. I requested my contracts and my original contract stated no increase in dues while the new contract they made me sign stated they could. I feel they purposely cancelled my account so I would sign new documents. 24 Hour Fitness is terrible. What kind of people thought it was good business practice to do this?? I just want my money back because it was all a lie. It was false advertising. Way too many people were scammed. 24 Hour Fitness needs to fix the wrong they have done.

Being Fired from 24 hr

1. Being let go because I was not a team player and wanted to always clean up feces in restrooms and around the pool area when flooded with feces and not letting members know what it it and how hazardous it is to there health when we have all age clients at the gym.

2 Being threatened and Harassed because understaffed due to operations not having enough people to cover there shifts..
3.Being threatened for having overtime while on a PIP
4.Being told I need to shave my time card down because I have overtime and can be written up or fired because again i'm on a PIP and being told to work off the clock.

So much more I don't even feel like saying. 858-210-1471

Poor Maintenance and Manipulation/Harrassment

Sales Manager having to clean up feces in restrooms because 24 hr fitness cant afford proper maintenance people to clean restrooms, having back up sewage lines and having to walk through it every time it happens to maintain clean towels and not letting members know whats going on while trying to close areas that have running feces through it. Members regardless of not seeing signage changing in the same areas of feces not being told what it is or why its happening. Got fired after being threatened over and over again about performance as I was maintaining a club without proper staff, having to lose staff for work all hrs of the morning and night due to other departments not staffed enough to handle there portion of work. Being written up for going over 40 hrs and being told to work off the clock and when working over 40 hrs, to deduct my hrs so I dont get fired.

Very bad experience don't buy this membership

I'm going to make it short since I can see there are hundreds of complaints and obviously they are not willing to change their sneaky business practices. Canceled my membership over a year ago and today got a charge for 39.99..when I called to ask about the charge they all say you same stupid scripted thing over and over sorry sir it's a non refundable charge.. They stated when I called a year ago and canceled I didn't cancel everything??? I called and canceled my account but these sneaky guys are stating I called and froze my account so now they are allowed to charge me 40 dollars a year later.. I believe they get credit for freezing account.. It looks better for their numbers and commissions if it's frozen rather than canceled..The person didn't cancel me they put me on a freeze no signature no recordings just what they decided.. So now I'm responsible for 40 charge a year later.. What absolute crap.. These guys are crooks and their staff are trained to ignore common sense and just keep saying no. No reasoning allowed.. Don't do business with these people you will end up with extra charges and 60 waits on the phone so they can play stupid and tell you they is nothing they can do..

Lifetime membership also cancelled without consent!

I had the same thing happen to me! I signed up for Liftetime membership in 2008 and paid around $650 with a $49 annual rate after those 3 years. I went to study abroad in 2014 and that was the last year I paid the $49 manually. I set up automatic billing to make sure this fee was paid. I was NOT notified by mail, email, or phone in 2015 or 2016 for renewal and now that I am back home wanting to use my membership, I am told it was cancelled!

I have been on the phone all morning and basically getting nowhere. This is just bad business. If there is a lawsuit out there for this sort of thing, please let me know. You can contact me at cbarragan84(at)gmail.com. Thank you!

They Cancelled my LIFETIME membership

In 2004, I purchased a life-time membership to 24-hr Fitness for approx. $750. (Which the first 3 years are paid for, and after 3 years, the dues will be $29 per year for life). I only went to the gym two times (twice!), then I moved 30 mins away from the nearest gym, and decided to get my exercise by surfing, running, walking at the beach, etc. I just moved again and called the closest location to find out how much I owe ($29 or $29 times two years, etc.). The employee said, "I have bad news for you. Your membership is cancelled. You only had 3 months to pay the $29 (for the following year, after the first 3 years had past), or your membership is cancelled permanently! (I asked if I could just pay the $29 per year, times how ever many years had past, and she said there was no option.)

Why on earth didn't the membership/sales employee tell me this when he had me sign at the bottom of numerous contract pages, with countless words I wanted to read, but he just pushed me through them so I would sign and he could hurry off to the next prospective membership victim?

I am livid! I threw $750 away on TWO gym visits! What type of lifetime membership is this? What kind of company is this? I will not let this go. I will tell the entire world... blog like crazy and, believe me... I will keep hundreds, hopefully millions, of people from EVER considering joining this ludicrously unethical company's fitness centers!

I copy paste this because its exactly what happen to me i was a member since 2004. i edited the year. Never missed a payment since 2004. Lapsed due to very busy work schedule pay stubs to prove it. Spoke with Lisa customer service manager. She said to sign up for another membership (NO RESPECT) for long time customers. Missed 1 payment!! Please Help if anyone was in a similar situation or direct me to anyone who can help. I just want my Lifetime Membership reinstated.

Lied about lifetime membership

We family of 5 joined 24hrs fitness in 1995. We were told to paid out front for $599/person for 3yrs after that it will be $99/year. 2008, another promotion paid out front for another $750 for 3years after that it will be only $49/year for life time. Sale person convinced me for this seal. I thought it will be good for my old age to pay $49/year. Last year, the $49/year went up to $99. This is fraud & breach contract to raise double??? I hardly used the facility and I had been supporting them without fail -paid promptly. I called the cooperate office. She said anyone signed after 4/2008 will increased. I signed up in 10/2008. I told them the sale person did not address this issued, otherwise, I will stayed with my old contract. I did paid $1350 out front. I think they were desperated at that time to get people resigned new contract for better deal. I believed principle not followed. I will be happy to join for law suite against 24hrs fitness. All prepaid contract up to no more prepaid contract should be acknowledge as life time warranty according to the sale person otherwise it will be fraud & illegal practice.

Breach of contract for lifetime membership

I'am also a victim of this contract breach. In 2007, I switched my monthly membership to prepaid for 3 years, and as long as I keep my membership, my dues will be $49.99 a year.

I just recently received a bill saying that my membership has increased to $99.99. Since I cannot find my original contract, nor 24 Hour Fitness can. Though 24 Hour Fitness claims that in the contract, they can change their fees. Meaning, that this will not be the only dues increase.

Way to treat and lie to your 10 years royal member. Good luck finding new members, I would recommend everyone to some other gym

Increase of Lifetime Membership

Like many others here, we bought a life time membership to Super Sports back 2004. The deal was $500 for the first 3 years and $99 the "life time" of the membership. Meaning, as long as we keep up the $99 annually, fee will never increase. Today, I got a letter saying they will increase from $99 to $100. That's over 100% increase. Is there a good lawyer who want to take on this class action suit?

Asked to Pay More while Taking Service Away

I've been a long time member and will be leaving after this annual term. After doing month-to-month for sometime, I purchased the 3 year All Active/Sports membership for about $600 or more with an annual renewal fee of $149 (in the fine print for the 1st 12 months only).

This all active and sports club access was perfect since ALL the 24 Hour Fitness locations in San Francisco as well as the immediate peninsula area where at highest club level Sport except for the Millbrae Super-Sport location they built while I was a member. My main gyms were the Ocean Ave Sport and the Potrero Sport although I tried many locations including Bay St, Van Ness Ave, Pacifica, and Daly City.

My gym-going has become less frequent so I was unaware of the many changes happening to my Sports clubs. One change I noticed this last month was my annual membership jumped $75 (50%) in price. I could handle that because I went over my contract and it stated that my fee could increase after the 1st year. That was fine. Maybe the broken outdated machines will finally be replaced.

What is absolute not fine is that fact that 24 Hour Fitness has made my membership inadequate by slapping some paint, a new Super-Sport Sign, and adding some dumb towels to many SF locations that were once clubs I could access. There are no drastic differences. I've read reviews on yelp and could see that these locations haven't improved much to warrant an upgrade.

So, 24 Hour Fitness wants to charge me more and give me less. Nope. I'll pay more to try the many alternatives that have come into business such as SF Fitness or the Stonestown Gym. Or pay less and go to Planet Fitness.

24 Hour Fitness Deceptive practices

I purchased a lifetime membership at 24 Hour Fitness in April of 2008 from the Oakland/Alameda in CA. The membership required $700 up-front for three years and promised a yearly renewal of $49 every year after. I have paid my $49 every April on time, and I use the club about 225 days a year. I received my renewal yesterday and to my surprise- 24 Hour is increasing my membership fee to $129 a year. I am contacting an Attorney in San Diego that supposedly is filing a class action against 24 Hour Fitness. I expect that 24 Hour assumed that most if not all of these so called lifetime renewals would go away. Meaning that most people would not continue their fitness routine much past the NEW YEAR. I also assume people that have maintained their membership honorably each year - that 24 Hour Honor their contract and commitment to their members.

Breach of contract on lifetime membership

I bought 2 memberships from 24 hour fitness in 2008 for$3459 each. Theyy were for 3 years and I was told and it said on the contract that after 3 years the annual renewal rate would be $99.00 per membership for the rest of my life. I just gort a letter from 24 hour that tells me my membership is now $199 per membership per year. Of course I can't find my original contract. Went into the club and of course they can't provide me with the original contract.
They are lying cheating scumbags.

Lifetime Membership Scam

Claim they sent notice of increase dues. Never received anything either in mail or email. Dues went from 49 a year to 135 a year. How do they justify a more than 200% increase without notification? This is a complete scam! We have 1 club we can use in our area, nothing has improved at our club and I refuse to pay and increase in dues for improved clubs that I can't even utilize!

"LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP" ?!?

My "Lifetime membership" of $49.00 has been increased to $99.00. I purchased this "Lifetime membership" in 2011 a sales pitch of 649.87 up front and a "Lifetime membership" of $49.00 after the first 3 years and that is what it was up until 2016. So does it go up every year from here??

I have already sign a petition against this bate and switch "Lifetime membership" practice at Change.org which has 1.897 supporters so far. I will also make a complaint a the BBB, Consumer Affairs, and contact: Foley Bezek Behle & Curtis LLP represents consumers against businesses who engage in unfair and deceptive business practices in a class action lawsuit against 24 Hour Fitness.

Name change to restrict service

I have been a member for a long time much like all the people on forum. I recently noticed that the Sport Club near where i live changed their name to Super Sport. I have been inside during their "remodeling" and I noticed nothing special. The merely replaced their old equipment and painted a few walls. This does not merit a name change and thus ousting people out of their Super Club. Why don't they change all clubs to Ultra Clubs so almost everyone will be excluded. I have not went inside after their official name change but I have a feeling I might be denied from entering.

Increase in yearly dues

I paid for a lifetime membership in 2006 and was told after 3 years my yearly bill would stay at $65 per year. This year the renewal jumped to almost twice as much to $119.00. When I called 24hr Fitness to let them know of the price increase mistake I was told that it was a cost of living expense and that I would have to pay the new amount. The 24hr operator told me that there was nothing she or her supervisor could do. How can 24hr Fitness get away with promising a guaranteed yearly rate and then arbitrarily increasing the rate? What recourse as a consumer do I have? I have been drinking the cool aid of 24hr Fitness for a long time, telling friends and family members of the benefits of a 24hr Fitness membership. I will not do that anymore. if I knew how, I would go on social media and pass on the "bait & switch" bad tactics of 24hr Fitness. Very disappointing!

Now we just received a bill for a $129 for the annual rate. this is a 400% increase-why would they do this-what executive at 24 hour fitness came up with this rip-off concept?
