24hr Lifetime Membership Scam

I also got ripped off by 24hr Fitness... gave them a huge up front fee ($1,000+) for lifetime membership of $29 per year and now they want $129 per year. I clearly remember going over the "Right to increase dues" section of contract with the salesman and the salesman very confidently and promisingly told me that they would never increase my dues and that it was a contract mistake. I have current friends that worked at 24hr fitness at the time I purchased the lifetime deal and they all say that the deal was supposed to be good for a lifetime and that is what they promised everyone who purchased it. If there is a lawsuit please contact me at [email protected]

Don't be cheated by 24 Hour Fitness Sales

I feel I have been cheated by the 24 hour fitness company sales program.
The sales told me to pay $1099/yr for 3 years (upfront $3297 payment) so I would only pay $29/yr.
Initially, it sounded so good when I signed-up for the program.
The sales didn't mention anything about their Financial Policy on the back of page 2 with fine print stating 24 hour may increase all subsequent annual renewal amounts. The sales guaranteed me with a loud, sounding voice that the annual membership amount will remain $29/year. This amount will not be changed in the future for the time I have my membership with 24 hour fitness. I believed the information that I received from them.
However, recently after 7 years, I received an invoice with a big jump from $29 to $129/yr.
If you do the math, I was paying $500 each year (1199 per yearX3yrs=$3297), (3297/7+29=500/yr) in this past 7 years; $41.66 per month. If I knew they did business this way I WOULD NOT ENROLL for this program because this was a sale scam!

Furthermore, when I reported this to the company, the company did not accommodate the customer at all.
I called their customer service twice this week. I was told the $29/year membership statement given by the sales person was not a concrete statement. She said the information that I received from the sales was only "Verbal" description which has no legal bonding. However, the sales gave a loud, sounding promise with my benefits when I signed the contract. Now, I am told that 24 hour fitness refuses to honor what I signed and was told through my contract was wrong and not concrete. How can I believe any promises/information given by this company now?

This is a company that doesn't keep their word.

All-club should be All-club

There should be something illegal about selling an "All Club" membership and then upgrading the club, calling it a Sport or Ultra Sport (or whatever the newest edition is) and then restricting All Club members from using them unless they "upgrade" their membership. Or, when when visiting family out of town, being unable to use the local 24-hr club because it is of a different classification, unless I pay the ten dollar daily visitor fee.

THIS IS WRONG!

If a person purchases an All Club membership, then it should be All Club. If 24-hr wants to upgrade the facilities, let them charge new members a rate that will recover the costs, but NOT members who already purchased a membership to use all facilities.
I wonder if that would be breach of contract? I'll have to read my original contract. This practice really should be illegal. It sure says something about the values and morals of the company.

Termination of Lifetime Corporate Membership

We joined 24 Hour Fitness in Ferb 2007 and paid two Lifetime Memberships. After the first three years, we would recieve the dues notice and would pay before the due date. We are not frequent users, but do enjoy the fact that the gym is there for us when we do use it. The people and facilities have aways been great. July 14 2014, we went to work out and were told that our contract was terminated. We had been there a few times in March as well as once in June and never had an issue. Martin told us the reason was nonpayment and to contact customer service. My wife is very organized, and keeps thorough records of our bills and statements. We had all of the paid dues notices up to Feb 2013. There were no dues notice for Feb 2014. I contacted customer service and was on hold for a very long time. I waited it out and finally Jessica got on the line. She told me my contract was terminted and that if I wanted to renew it, I would have to pay a rewrite fee of $169 per person as well as the yearly past dues. I told her I would be more than happy to pay the past dues, but since we did not receive the dues notice, I did not feel obligated to pay such an exorbinate late or rewrite fee. She told me that was the deal. I asked to speak with her supervisor and Melanie got on the line and we talked at length, but she basically quoted the same things Jessica said. I asked where the contract stated that I would have to pay a rewrite fee. She said she would have to have her support team look up my contract and some one would get back to me. I asked why we did not get a dues notice. She said she did not know, but it is our responsibilty to know when to pay. I asked why we did not receive a late notice or termination notice and she stated that the company does not do that. Wow! I feel that since I paid the $1,950 up front for a corporate lifetime membership, paid the dues dilligantly in the past, and am trying not to get upset about the lack of concern or customer loyalty on the part of 24 Hour Fitness, that I should be able to work out something that is more customer friendly. I will wait a week or two, but then I will need to go to the next level. I am hoping that 24 Hour Fitness will do the right thing.

Membership Bait & Switch

In March of 2009, I signed up for a lifetime membership at 24 Hour Fitness. 1st 3 years were paid in advance, and I was told I would have to pay $150 for year 4, and then $29 per year after that. I just tried to renew for year 5 and was told that I don't have a lifetime membership and that my dues would be $150 per year and that 24 hour fitness has the right to increase the fee at their discretion. After finding out, I spoke with a representative and the manager. Both told me that there was nothing that can be done, unless I produced the original contract.

Granted, $150 per year is still good, but the whole experience leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'll be making sure to tell everyone who will listen about this scam going on at this fitness club!

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

DISSATISFIED WITH MEMBERSHIPS

I purchased a lifetime membership for myself and my daughter on the same day in 2006. Trust me, it was not cheap. I paid the amount in full. One year later I purchased a lifetime membership for my wife. I instructed the 24 Hour sales representative that I wanted the same level of membership for all three of us. He assured me that all three membership were identical and we could all work out together at the same clubs. We recently visited the new Lakewood facility which is designated as a Super Sport. My membership was accepted, but my wife's was denied. I was informed that I could sign a contract and pay an additional $20.00 for each of them to upgrade their membership to the Super Sport level. I found this unacceptable. I have paid the $29.00 each renewal ahead of time each year to ensure that our memberships would continue without interruption. I contacted the manager, Clara, at the Lakewood facility and was told that I would have to pay the upgrade fees. She suggested that I contact the manager at the Santa Fe Springs location to discuss the matter. I spoke with Jeff Espino, manager at the Santa Fe Springs facility and was told the same thing. I repeatedly explained to both of them that I purchased my membership and my daughter’s on the exact same date, at the same time, on the same contract and paid for them in full at that time. I explained to both managers that I purchased my wife's membership a year later and was assured that her membership was the same level as my membership. How could I have one level of membership, and different memberships for my family members? Especially when two were purchased at the same time. Word of mouth is the best advertisement. Over the years I have recommended 24 Hour Fitness to everyone I can. But I will no longer refer anyone to 24 Hour Fitness, unless 24 Hour Fitness is willing to do the right thing, honor my contract as I understood it and the sales representative assured me. I expect them to no breach the contract, and upgrade my daughter's and wife's membership to Super Sport level without charging me any increased yearly fees, or upgrade fees. If I had known this in advance, I would have stayed with L.A. Fitness.

the rude staff

1. Your friend needs to purchase a membership, nothing is free.
2. Read back the second portion of your complaint regarding your reservation...there are only a limited number of spots...class was full+you lost your ticket:::::::there are no tickets left. (Common Sense)
