Denies All Claims

I purchased a Choice Home Warranty before we closed on our home for peace of mind. Along with the basic coverage I also got the optional coverage coverage for roof leak and sewer system. A month or so after the warranty was in affect we had a roof leak and CHW refused to cover the claim. Just recently our septic system started having problems and I was sure this time I was covered. WRONG!!! They go above and beyond to deny your claim. Do not pay attention to your warranty agreement because they will interpret it completely opposite of the average consumer. I have filed to legitimate claims and both were denied. Stay away from CHW and look for a better alternative. I wish I had done more research and knew that they were in a Class Action Lawsuit for denying claims before I did business with them..,Look elsewhere or save your the cost of the warranty for repairs.

Choice Home Warranty

I have had home warranties before and have had very good experiences, but with this company I am very disappointed. I have 2 warranties with this company (2 houses). We had our AC serviced and were told of a possible issue, called and reported this issue to CHW and they sent someone out to review it. This company agreed that the coil had gone bad and the AC unit needed to be replaced and filed the claim with CHW. CHW then called my husband to say they are denying to cover it because and I quote "the part should have last longer and because it quit working prematurely they will not cover it". I'm sorry but the unplanned issue of something breaking or no longer functioning is the whole reason you get a Home warranty. My husband was transferred 3 or 4 times and no one seemed to care and they were not willing to do anything. My husband told them they were fraudsters and a scam and she said they could pay 150.00 towards labor but that was it. So not only am I out the money I will be paying out of pocket for a new unit ($2,500) but I am also out the money I paid for 2 full home warranties. I feel as though we paid for a service, that by the way we asked many questions on the front end about what they covered, and they were not honest about their business. I would highly recommend not wasting your money with the company as they do not offer what they claim to and are not concerned with what that means to their customers. Very upset with the company, their lack of service, and lack of concern. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs as I read many posts on Yelp and turns out there is a civil lawsuit against them. So upset that we are even having to go through all of this.

Scam is correct

The other complaints mirror my mine is some respects. I have been with them for while. They will pay the small petty claims in many instances, but as soon as the bigger stuff surfaces - as they have now- they will NOT pay . I really want one verifiable source to tell me they replaced a AC unit - then I will back off.......The "service" agents are trained to combat us and recite loose contract terms and reasons. Many of which you cannot disprove without paying a lot of money.

Dryer unit: Rear drum liner comes off - I file claim. Denied - pre-existing condition. I speak to Supervisor. After 15 minutes he agrees that my tenure with them is important (wow) and would assign the claim. Tech comes out and confirms rear drum liner has come off! They tell me claim is denied..again..for pre-existing condition, again! I ask for supervisor. I make that argument that this was approved before. They say that they only approved the tech to look at (Yes.. and charge me $45 for it! - this is insulting). I ask to cancel this scam 45 days after renewing. The transfer me- ask why - I tell them - I don't like being lied to and my intelligence insulted. They agree to pay the $225 to fix the dryer in lieu of cxl. Wow - nice...but, the $225 paid burns me later......

Heat pump failure (15 years old): One unit out in 2014 - compressor failed (much like these other complaints) they claim it was not maintained properly with 2 other reasons and stand their ground. I vow to ensure my other crappy unit is in impeccable condition. 2015 Feb - it fails after a cold spell in GA and on the coldest day of the year. Denied - Compressor failed - reasons: Manufact. defect/improperly maintained/power surge/short to ground. All of which disputed by the folks who looked at...4 reasons - all of which had zero merit - they all say it was time. These rubbish units failing all over my n'hood at 15 years. It REALLY is a Scam folks - pay the extra $200 a year for other reputable options. Back to the $225 act of kindness. I had enough after this last denial- call to cancel and recover some money - oh no - they now bill you for the claim payment of $225 that they paid out of pocket - crud! - costs you more to cancel. All in all - you waste $45 for an expert to look at and report back to CHW on big item. In some cases these guys step up for the big ticket replacement with a Manager discount saying they are appalled by CHW....but that is still $500-$800 over the best price out there - LOL......Man I cant stand dealing with CHW, but I will keep filing - because it costs me too much to cxl. It is all about the principal of now. The more ppl that battle these crooks - the better.

stove top

I am new with chw. I signed up with them on 2/18/15 so my warranty effective 3/18/15. Everything works well, never had any problem on any of my appliances since I bought the house 2012. Until 3/18/15 while I was cooking and baking breakfast for my kids to go to school. I heard a popped in my oven and all the power in my oven went down but I was able to finished the cooking part. I called CHW and I asked when's my effective of my warranty and the rep said today so I told the story and she sounds like she got a doubt but she openned a claim for me. Repair guy came the next day. The guys said this expensive oven and it's hard to find the parts don't even know if the parts still exist in the market. He said CHW probably gonna buy back the oven from us instead. The repair guy said he will call CHW and he will call me for the update of the claim. I received an automated call from CHW the next day. Called them back and spoke to rep, she was making a lot of excuses not to pay the claim. She keep saying that they don't pay existing damage before the effective date of my warranty. I said to the rep. The damage was done on the day of my warranty effective date and it's not my problem. I ask for supervisor. I hold for few minutes by the time supervisor is available, I am about to start my work so I wasn't able to speak to sup. I called again during my break time and they hold me again for sup which I didn't get a chance cuz it was only a 15 minutes break. I think these people is avoiding to pay my oven cuz they found out from the repair guy that the oven is expesive. It was a custom built oven . I need help to file complaint to these people.

Choice Home warranty

I am working overseas so I bought the home warranty plan to cover our appliances so my wife would have to worry about these things. My a/c stopped cooling the service rep at CHW told her they would not send any out because ran but cooling. So we had some come and check the system they said it was on it last leg and did some minor repairs. A few weeks later it stopped completely so my wife called CHW. They sent their contractor out he determined the compressor and out door fan was bad. The tech told my wife it would better to replace the equipment than repair , one the unit was 14 years and two the expense would be throwing good money away for temporary fix and no promise when they could get the parts(it was about 90 degrees with high humidity and my wife has some health issue). Being former A/C contractor I agreed. He said we would get buy out from CHW of 1500 to 2000 dollars. So we agreed and the equipment was installed the next day.Keep in mind I am on the other side of the continent and my wife (who is 68) is trying to handle this because we had a warranty on our unit. We paid for the installation on good faith that we would get a portion of our money back from CHW.
Shortly after my wife checks with CHW and through several calls we are told they only pay for the fan motor $145.00 because that cause the compressor to go out. Kind of like a insurance company not paying when you total your car because your tire blew but they will pay for tire. Now, we actually had a new system installed for $4300.00 but we were and are not asking for the full amount just what was to covered. This was told to CHW as well but after more calls and more BS they shifted the blame to their contractor by saying they did not follow procedures and basic they were not going to pay but $145.00. The contractor really tried to work with us they gave him same BS because he had use d the same procedures before. But he said CHW was one the worst companies out there but that does not help me.
I would like to join the class action if possible.

Water Heater replacement

In the add for Choice Home Warranty, it clearly states in the 5th bullet point that "Plumbing, Water Heater" are what you get covered by paying a fee. Our water heater went out after paying a monthly fee we call for service. A plumber came out and said that your water heater needs replacing and we paid him the standard $45.00 service fee. The CHW company representative said that if you look at the fine print on the warranty that "water storage devices" are not covered under the plan. This is crazy because that is why you buy a "Whole Home Warranty" to cover your whole home!

Scam

I had a problem with my ac not cooling properly. I called Choice Home Warranty and sent a repair man a day later. He put some Freon and left. A week later I had the same problem and I called Choice Home Warranty and they sent the same guy again. This time AC Technician told me that there is a leak in the AC system and will charge me to do a leak detector test $175.00 Choice Home Warranty will not cover such tests. AC tech told me that he found a leak in the evaporator coil and took photos to send to CHW. Choice home Warranty has not seen any of the photos that the tech sent them. Choice Home Warranty told me that the repair will not be covered because it is a pre existing condition and that pre existing conditions are not covered. I have spent $405.00 and it’s still not fixed and now the fan is not working. I made a mistake by signing a contract with this fraudulent company.

Refusal to fix AC

My story is like many others. I purchased a policy with Choice Home Warranty after having one with another company that I should have stayed with. I won't go through all the details but same issue they just are denying the claim without considering the details of the claim logically. I spoke with two different AC technicians who said they are doing this to everyone. They both also said that my AC was in VERY good condition and had nothing more than normal wear and tear and believe my claim should be paid no questions. Every time I call get a different story from CHW. They say they are going to have someone call me but do not. They will not respond to emails and tell me my only avenue is to write a letter to appeal because there is no email or phone number to call. Write a letter, are you kidding me? I have read all the posting boards and plan to take the recommended actions and file the recommended complaints with the recommended agencies. The good news is fortunately I have a lot of time to spend filing all the necessary information needed to complain. The bad news is I am still sitting in 90 degree heat because this company won't pay for something but instead would rather spend the money coming up with every excuse not to pay for claims.

Another customer SCAMMED

I've had a warranty with Choice for about 16 months and I bought a 3 year contract in advance, so I still have another 20 months remaining.

I called them for the first time last month regarding my AC because it was turning on, but wasn't cooling the apartment. They eventually sent someone out (who barely spoke English -not enough to explain anything to answer any questions) and then they gave me the run around for weeks. They wouldn't give me info on the phone, didn't reply to emails and kept requesting info from me about the AC unit.

Finally, I called them to have them tell me that they won't be covering the repair because of some limitations clause in the contract. The technician claimed the unit is just old and needs to be replaced, but they're saying it's a certain type of damage that isn't covered.

What a scam. I'll be happy to file any additional complaints as required.

Complaint

I to am another customer that Choice Home Warranty SCAMMED. I held a policy with AHS for over 6 years..actually pretty happy with them...but their cost and service fees kept getting higher. So I decided to look for another company that "I thought" offered the same warranty as AMS. Well they DON'T. My story sounds like many others...I have a home that is about 10 years old...this is the reason why I like having a Home Warranty. I call Choice to file a clim regarding my Heat Pump. They send someone out to look at it (this man was at least 70 years old...and took about 10 minutes to look over my heating unit). I was told by the Technician that the compressor in the unit was bad and he would request that the unit be replaced. I receive a call from Choice the next day telling me that this was a preexisting problem. I told them that I had a policy with AHS before I was with them and if it were preexisting that I would have had them fix the problem. After spending hours on the phone with several different people...they finally let me speak to one of their supervisors. Besides being very unprofessional and extremely RUDE ...He gives me a bunch of BS about this being preexisting and they would not cover our unit. Stay away from this company...they are not what they say they are when they are trying to sell you the policy. Don't be SCAMMED like me...just say NO to Choice Home Warranty.

Breach of Contract

After a year I made my first claim due to my AC not working. I had to call 4 different contractors they had asked me to call before I found one who would come look at my AC unit. All other contractors had very bad things to say ab0ut Choice Home Warranty company.
The contractor broke appointments, didn't show when he said he would and finally came in his personal truck with no company name on it, talking the entire time on his phone. After a 10 minute visit he decided he had to leave and reschedule to determine what was wrong. Again, broken appointments and finally showing up late he arrived. With in 10 minutes he informed me I needed an entirely new system. (the compressor is only several years old).
For the next week I supplied all information requested by Choice Home Warranty Company with regard to the AC system. Maintenance records, service calls over the years etc. I was finally told they feel I had a pre existing condition when I entered into the contract over a year ago. I supplied documents showing annual mainentance to the contrary and with no leak issues. This is a company who has an "F" rating with Better Business B. and yet stays in business. Let's see how they fair here in Maryland with our laws on companies who do business like Choice Home Warranty Company.
. Oh Yea "Have a Great Day", they love to say that as they screw you.

Big Scam

I sign up Home Choice Warranty 11-2011. Big mistake of my life!!! 3-24-2012 my electric went out in my rest room and part of my room. I call up CHW for a claim. They sent out the Electrician. Electrician can not find the problem. Two days later CHW call me up and said that they Electrician need to run a new wire. CHW said that my Warranty do not cover it. Denial, denial, denial... Now I'm out of $45.00 and no repair done. I call up CHW and and try to explain that I don't need new wire. all it need is to find the break wire and reconnect it. CHW said it is not fees able.. I try to be reason with them and argue with the dumb shit, so call their personal CHW electrician. Going no with the Argument, I decided to fix it my self. Take half hour to fine the problem. Thank for nothing CHW..I agree with class action law suit..
