Kenmore Compressor failure

My $2200 refrigerators compressor failed after just 2 1/2 years. What a piece of junk. I am reading about the class action law suit over defective linear compressors. Can anyone explain why there is a not a recall and replacement action with a non defective compressor? Seems like the right thing to do. The Sears repairman just talked me into throwing out my fridge and buying a new one. He had a compressor to put in but let me know it was $1014. to install. So just spent another $2000 for a new replacement including the 3 year warranty.
This is outrageous and so disappointing to know that these warranties on original compressors are covered for one year. And that this is more common based on the class action.

These are American companies? I spend my money trying to buy quality items from America. I would be happy to spend a little more for an appliance that will last.

Is there any compensation to resolve the defective compressor?

Sears Refrigerator Model 10651783412

We have the Sears Kenmore side by side refrigerator model 10651783412. It has a serious design flaw with the ice maker built into the door. Wires come out from the bottom of the refrigerator into the door to provide power and control to the ice maker. The wires stress every time the door is opened and closed. It is only a question of time until they break. It is unrepairable. The solution is to buy a new door which cost almost as much as the refrigerator did new. Bad design and bad company for not standing behind it. There is a reason Sears is bankrupt.

We have the Sears Kenmore side by side refrigerator model 10651783412. It has a serious design flaw with the ice maker built into the door. It is only a question of time until they break. It is unrepairable. The solution is to buy a new door which cost almost as much as the refrigerator did new. Bad design and bad company for not standing behind it. There is a reason Sears is bankrupt.

Sears Kenmore Elite (LG) Refrigerator

We purchased a Kenmore Elite Refrigerator (LG) from Sears on 10-16-16 and was delivered on 10-24-16. This was the biggest mistake of our lives! We purchased the Master Protection Agreement for 3 years for an additional fee of $379.99. I believe the Sears' representatives push for this since they know these LG refrigerators are junk.

The compressor went bad on 2-25-19 and couldn't get it serviced until 3-13-19. I'm not sure why they think you can go without a refrigerator for this length of time and not lose all of your food in your refrigerator and freezer. If they don't have enough service technicians in the area, they need to hire more so they can service appliances in a more timely manner.

It wasn't even 2 months later and the compressor went bad again. Same story again. We had to wait a couple weeks for the service technician to show up to determine that it was the compressor again, then we had to wait 2 more weeks for the part to arrive. When the service technician replaced the compressor and condenser coil, he stated that they are junk and it probably won't last long. This is really comforting to hear when you spend all of this money on a refrigerator that Sears claims is great but they definitely don't stand behind their products. The technician also stated that the noise that it was making was something that he couldn't fix. We would just have to live with it.

Once again, it starts with the ice maker not working and then the freezer is warmer than the refrigerator side. Now, it's 3-30-20 with the coronavirus pandemic happening and of course, the warranty has run out. It is 4-10-20 and the service technician just showed up this morning to inform us that it's most likely the compressor AND the condenser coil again. To replace these parts, it was going to cost us at least $500 and they only warranty the parts for 90 days but that does not include labor charges. I can't believe it! This refrigerator is only a little over 3 years old and we had to replace the compressor on it 3 times. They are absolutely junk and I don't recommend that anyone buys an LG (Kenmore Elite) refrigerator.

Kenmore Elite model 795.74025.411

Ordered whole kitchen set of appliances. This refrigerator was part of the package. The unit was delivered April 2016. Installed June 2016. April 2018 the compressor and another part went bad. Cost me just under $700 from sears service to repair. However, come to find out there was a defect in the aluminum refrigerent line. The unit failed January 2020. The hole in the line was in the foam packing of the refrigerator. Not repairable. I had to buy a new refrigerator in less then four years of installation. Sears would not make any concession for their inferior quality product. If you are smart, do not buy a LG or Kenmore, or Kenmore Elite product. By the way the microwave failed out of this package as well. It had to be replaced at my full cast as well.

Linear LG compressor silently died after 4 years of work (Jul 2015 - Aug 2019) during 3 weeks absence from home. The food spoilage was so bad (refrigerator kept running defrost cycles heating the insides) I had to throw the whole unit away.

ADVICE: Buy ~$20 wireless thermometer with alarm on Amazon and have your security camera to pickup the alarm sound. You can then ask your family/friends to unload the fridge and prevent the expensive damage.

Shopped around and bought exactly the same fridge due to excellent design and internal volume. The newer model still has LG compressor that will die but starting from Nov 2019 a new Panasonic compressor is used that should be more reliable.

Kenmore Elite 795.74012.412

Same story as all the rest, purchased Dec 11th, 2016. Stopped cooling May 2018. We did not buy the extended service plan since we never needed one before with Kenmore products. Had to wait several weeks for the initial visit for the repairman to show up to say the compressor had failed. Repairman ordered a new compressor but was not sure how long it would take to arrive at our house since there seemed to be a shortage (now I know why) and couldn't make a an appointment to have it installed until it arrived. Waited about 4 weeks to have it installed and now Oct 1, 2019 we have a $2500 paperweight in the dining room that Sears will not stand behind. Called around and it seems nobody wants to work on LG brands, yes this might say Kenmore on the door but its an LG, due to the linear compressor that in it. I got the same run around from Sears that everyone else is getting. Hopefully others will read these post before buying a Sears product or an LG product.

Consumer Report reported best rated Refrigerator. Kenmore Elite. bought 9/25/16. Now on 9/10/19 will not cool, have been on phone with Sears for 3 days for repairman, they tell us they have no repairman in this area, Other repairmen in this area will not work on it when we give them the serial number. Sears tells us that we can order a new Frig and they will ship free but we have to pay 30.00 to haul the old one off, Had Samsung before this and had same problem. So we were not going to get Samsung again. Then find out LG makes Samsung and Kenmore.

Kenmore Elite Refrigerator Model 795.74023.412

Not quite 2 years old and it stopped cooling 2 days ago. Sears repair department said their earliest appointment would be in 2 1/2 weeks. We instead had an LG certified repairman come out yesterday. He said it clearly needed a new compressor which he installed. He flushed it 3 times and still saw metal particles which concerned him. We waited 24 hours to see if it would cool with the new compressor. It is slightly cooler than room temperature. The repairman is coming back to refund our money (very honest guy) He says that the refrigerator has been destroyed by the old compressor. When the refrigerator first installed we called Sears because we thought it was loud. They went through some diagnostics over the phone and said it was fine. After 11 months we had the complimentary appliance "check up", again mentioning that it often seemed loud. We were once again assured that it was fine. And now after 2 years we have to purchase a new refrigerator. It will definitely not be from Sears!

I too purchased a second Kenmore Elite model 795.74033.410 grab and go refrigerator after my original Kenmore Elite broke down at 5 years and the Sears technician was unable to repair it after he came to my home 4 times! Shame on me to trust Sears again. I am now 10 days without a refrigerator that is only 4 years old. An outside Appliance repair diagnosed our refrigerator and essentially everything is malfunctioning, the compressor, evaporator, dryer etc. Allegedly the parts are under warranty but the catch is I have have it diagnosed by a Sears professional!! They won't give me the warranted parts! Oh I forgot to mention we have to pay for them to come and the first appointment is one week from yesterday. I spent too many hours trying to get answers from Sears! What an inferior product that was collaborated with LG. Hello life isn't good!!! If there is a class action please advise how to be added to the list!

Sears refrigerator

Our sears kenmore refrigerator died on 2019. Sears has been no help at all in getting me timely service Two,weeks is totally unacceptable. Apparently only searsmand LG techs can fix an lg or sears refrigerator because it’s a sealed unto. I was told this by 2 different repairman. They also told me about the class,action suits against lg and sears due to the faulty compressors/ sealed units. I broke all,ties,with sears after this and will never buy another product from them as they are cheap junk anymore. They used to have a solid products . Now nothing but junk. No wonder they are going out of business. It can’t happen fast enough, this way less,people,I’ll be getting screwed.

I'd advise everyone to stay away from a Kenmore Elite an Sears.Have only had our frigerator for 2 1/2 years an done had to have a fan motor put on it an now the ER 1F code light has come on . I researched it to see what the code means an it says its a ice fan or could be panel board. Could be several things. I'ts so pitiful that you pay your hard earned money for something nice an it turns out it ain't worth a damn.Sears is a piece of shit. They need to close all of the Sears down.An never call their service depsrtment because you'll get nowhere an they'll just put you off as long as they can an their warranty is a bunch of bull.Called service an they said we would have to wait for two weeks an then turned around an tried to sell us an siding.Those folks an sears need to go somewhere.You can't even understand their service repestives .I'D say you better run . Something needs to be done.

Kenmore Elite Refrigerator Model 795.72483.411

I purchased a Kenmore Elite Refrigerator, model 795.72483.411 in January 2016 for $3,096 (Was $4,000). In March 2019, the compressor died. The compressor part was still under warranty, but the labor was not covered ($550). The replacement compressor was noisy since the installation on March 4th, and continually got louder. On May 31, 2019, I called for a follow-up service order. I was told I would not be charged as it would be covered under their 90 day repair warranty. The repairman came out and stated that it a restricted refrigerant flow and would not be covered. Sears' "Customer Solutions" team members Melody and George both said (on two different occasions), that it would be repaired for free. I received a call late yesterday from their regional Customer Solutions representative, Jordan, stating that they would not send the repairman back out unless I agreed to pay for the service. I advised I would not be paying and asked her to escalate to her management team.

I will be pursuing additional other remedies, including the Delaware State Attorney General Consumer Complaints division, letters to the Sears board of directors, class action lawsuits, and potential independent legal action.

Kenmore Pro Elite counter depth refrigerator with bottom freezer died just 2 years after purchase in 2016. Sears technician made numerous visits each time suggesting some part or the other to be replaced and the fridge is not cooling nor is the freezer functioning properly. It is a $3200+ appliance and not to mention the food lost and the fees paid to Sears for the visits and parts ordered.
My previous Kenmore fridge lasted 18 years and was still functioning when I replaced it with this LE inside crap.

Failed Kenmore Pro refrigerator

Reviewing the below similar complaints and am appalled! We purchased (both physical stores now closed in our locale) our refrigerator Sept. 2016 (paid $3385.00) and within that year the ice maker failed. Called Sears service wanted fee and schedule was 2 weeks. Called local repair service to repair. April, 2019 refrigerant system failed. Kitchen smelled of noxious fumes. Checked Sears website schedule and again out by 2 weeks. Again, called local repair service and they confirmed refrigerant system failed and very expensive to repair. Compelled to purchase another refrigerator at another expense of $3350. (another brand).
Pursued Sears Corporate/Advocate offices by providing all appropriate documentation by letter and emails. Stated that they did not have records of Warranty (didn't buy extended warranty) and continued to kick the can down the road and call SERVICE!!!!!! Spoke to service and after lengthy discussion he wanted to know when to come out to service...…
Told him that Kenmore Pro was removed and local appliance repair service would validate the problem.
Finally, in reviewing our Kenmore Pro Limited Warranty and a current Kenmore Pro Warranty, Sears has added a new by-line *Defects must be verified by a Sears authorized service representative". I stand by the original warranty when it was purchased.

We purchased a Kenmore Elite Grab and Go refrigerator from Sears in April of 2015. Last week our ice maker stopped working, and then a few days later the frig and freezer both stopped working. We contacted sears and was told that our warranty had expired. Sears scheduled a repair man to come out the following week, and offered us a warranty plan stating that we could pay $49 a month, with a $99 deductible, with parts covered and labor for up to $500. We accepted the plan. Even then because Sears does not do repairs on the weekend, therefore we had to spend $160 on a small freezer to salvage as much of our frozen food as possible. The following Monday we waited for the repair man for most of the day. Our appointment time was between 1pm and 5pm. The Sears repair man did not show up until around 6pm. He then informed us that our compressor was bad and that it would take a week for the repair work to be done. He then told us that we were expected to pay $99 for the visit, plus $146 dollars because the repair job exceeded the $500 limit. This information was slightly different from what we had been told by the person who sold us the warranty plan. When we called back a different representative told us that Sears only covers up to $500 for the total repair job. When I complained about the misinformation the warranty person on the phone offered me $500 towards the purchase of a new refrigerator from Sears. Is he kidding. Our frig is only 4 years old! To add insult to injury, the repair person told us "Your compressor is an LG compressor and these things are dropping like flies". When I questioned him about the brand of the replacement part, he informed us that he would be replacing the compressor with another LG compressor. I have been on the phone with Sears several times the past few days complaining about my refrigerator not working. Twice the warranty person on the phone attempted to schedule a walk through to sell us a new AC unit. Yet its been a week and our refrigerator still does not work. In addition to a small freezer we had to go out last night to purchase a small refrigerator. I called the corporate office this morning and was sent back to the same customer service number. Its frustrating because the English of the people we spoke with is not very good. The agents sound very rehearsed and appear to experts at not solving your problems.

Kenmore Elite 795.73153 Refrigrator

Bought the unit 5/2016. The compressor failed 1/2019. Called Service and of course the part had to be ordered. Part took over a week to get here. Technician came on 2/1/2019 to install new compressor. New unit was installed but he also discovered a leak in the evaporator coil. He has to order that part. The part may be here by 2/5/2019 which I will need to call again to schedule the technician out. Meanwhile I am without a refrigerator and all the food in the refrigerator and freezer had to be disposed of. I am out service fees and labor plus all the food cost. Something tells me that the new compressor will go bad in a few years. Where is the class action lawsuit for this mess. Sears and LG need to own up to their problems and make owners of these pieces of junk whole again.

Kenmore Elite Refrigerator

Purchased 10/2013. Suddenly in September 2018 not freezing or keeping items cold. Contacted Sears and was told I had a 4 year warranty, not the 5 year I had understood I had purchased. They said no problem, I could purchase the extended warranty at that time, so I did. Scheduled a appointment for diagnosis just over a week later. No problem to fix according to diagnosis tech but the only appointment available Oct 1, 2018. Have 5 people living in the home and really need a large refrigerator, but work with ice chests till that time. One month without a refrigerator at that point. Repair man comes out, replaces part, tells us it’s fixed, to wait 24hours then use. Refrigerator not cold and even freezer not cold. Call back, they try and schedule recheck/diagnosis for November. After multiple calls, I finally get an appointment the middle of October. We borrow a small temporary refrigerator and install it in the middle of the kitchen to get us through till the repair. The day arrives and nobody shows up during the scheduled time between 8am and 12 pm. I call, they are going to be there within an hour, 4 hours later, I call again, am told the tech is completing a job then he will be at my home. 2 hours after that, I call back and informed that I was his last scheduled visit of the day and that he has gone home now, they don’t know why, but I will have to reschedule. Nor can they tell me why I was his “Last scheduled visit of the day” when my appointment time was for scheduled 8 in the morning till 12:00 noon. Again after a great deal of arguing and time spent on the phone, I get a new appointment that someone actually shows up for, and he takes apart the back of the refrigerator, cuts apart and welds things back together and again tells us the refrigerator is fixed, wait 24 hours then start using it again. Again, not cold and I can not understand why my refrigerator still was not working after replacing the malfunctioning parts on a relatively new refrigerator. Call for re-diagnosis of the problem. Again I have to make multiple calls to beg, plead and argue to finally end up with a appointment in the beginning of November. We have been through September, October and now going into November without our refrigerator. Serviceman comes out, reports something leaked where it doesn’t belong with first repair and so replacement parts ordered and appointment scheduled for November 27th but this time repairman tells us to call if parts arrive sooner. Parts arrive within the week, I call as instructed and I lose the appointment for the 27th but I end up with appointments scheduled in December that no one shows up for, repeated canceled and rescheduled appointments that I’m only informed about though text messages if I’m informed at all. So now we have one though Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years without our refrigerator. Finally got them out on January 4th to replace the parts sitting in my kitchen since October and now the refrigerator works off and on and is leaking brownish black oil. Something it never did before. Called Kenmore and was told the original repair was done under a recall and then they connected me back with sears who now set another appointment for January 18th 2019. September, October, November, December and now at the very least, most of January, just shy of 5 months without our refrigerator, waiting on sears to fix what was supposed to be a simple fix on a 5 year old refrigerator they sold to us. The Kenmore Elite 3 door maybe a lemon of a refrigerator but Sears is adding so much distress, agony and cost to the situation by botching the first repair, obviously having something go wrong during the second repair to not only have it work off and on, but to now leak oil,then refusing to schedule appointments during all these months making us have to spend more on groceries every week because we have nowhere to put the quantity we need for a family of 5. On top of all that, having our holidays ruined because there is no way of preparing and preserving food without our refrigerator. My experience is that Sears is no longer a company who cares about the quality of their merchandise nor do they care about their customers. I am not positive about the Kenmore, if I just happened to get a lemon or if they all are lemons, but if I am forced to purchase another refrigerator, I can’t risk sinking that kind of money ($3000)into a refrigerator that seems to last only 5 years. Sears is no longer the place to go for appliances or anything else for that matter.
