It wasn't me!

I received an NTTA bill for 3 dates in Feb. 2014 along with a photo of my license plate. It's my truck and plate/tag, but the dates (2/8/14, 2/10/14 and 2/16/14)...I was not in TX. I was in OK at a Quincenera, home, and on 2/16--I was at Disneyworld, my truck parked safely at the airport (and parked in the same place when I returned).

This is very, very bizarre. The bill is only $10.62, but I'm worried if I pay it, I will receive future bills despite not having used the roads. Has this happened to anyone else? And what the flip do I do?

2 year old toll bill

I just received a bill from the NTTA for tolls incurred on 10/18/2012. The invoice clearly states that the billing cycle is from 5/15/2014 to 6/14/2014. Even if I had incurred the tolls on this bill (which I did not) the NTTA is way out of bounds believing that they can collect on a toll that was incurred 18 months prior to the stated billing cycle AND never before billed. Perhaps this is a scam. Perhaps the NTTA failed to collect these tolls from someone else and is now trying to collect them from me. Why else would they send out invoices for tolls nearly 2 years old? Where is the Texas Department of Transportation and why are they letting NTTA get away with this? I'll tell you why.....Money.

Wrong Charge

I received a ZipCash Invoice from NTTA on 7/2/2014 charging me a toll fee. I wish to state categorically that I was wrongly charged. My cars does not bear the plate number ascribed to my name. I do not own a car with the number TEXAS BGG 2219 whatsoever.

I wish to be absolved of any penalty that may arise. Thanks

Need NTTA help

I’m in the same situation and cant figure out how to solve it. My account is in collections and it’s doubled due to collection fees. I tried to work out a payment plan with NTTA but was told the grace period is over and they cant make arrangements because it’s in collections. I’m not sure what else I can do.

Two year old bill just arrived

I just received a bill from my son's car who is in the Navy. The bill is over two years old. I am glad I got the bill and I still live here because I've heard this problem can mess up your credit and I would be charged huge late fees if not paid on time. Really? When you are two years late sending the bill?

I've received bills from NTTA that were several months late, but never two years. I think this is crazy and someone should be doing a better job regulating you! This is what happens with a monopoly. We the people have no choice.

Fraudulent charges

On September 2013 I received a letter from a collection company stating I owed thousands to the NTTA. When I called the collections company all they wanted was to know how I was going to pay. I told them I was disputing the charge and they said I couldn't and I would have to pay. I then called the NTTA and they said they would not talk to me because they sent the account to the collection company. I drafted a letter disputing the amount and requesting verification in accordance to the Federal Trade Commissions Fair Debt Collections Practice Act and sent the letter with confirmation to the collection company. I have not heard anything from the collection company or the NTTA concerning this matter till I received a letter from the DPS saying I have a ticket for running a toll booth almost 2 years ago. I called the NTTA who said again that they would not speak with me about this since it is in collections. I went down to the JP court to file my response and ask for a trail date and all the clerk kept asking me was to go to the NTTA and pay the toll. I told her no I want my day in court because I was disputing the amount. Around the first of January I received a letter from JP court 4-2 for pre-trail. When I got to pre-trail it was not pre-trail. It was the assistant district attorney and representatives from the NTTA attempting to collect the dept. I was very upset that during a pre-trial no judge was present and no evidence was presented by the plaintiff and when I asked again for verification of the debt I was told no. I immediately stopped the process and requested my court date.

I am currently waiting for my court date and will be sending them a discovery request. If anyone has experienced these problems with the NTTA let me know because I can use all the help I can get. I set up an email just for this. it is [email protected]

No Customer Service or Bill Payment Available

So I got a bill in the mail for $9 from NTTA. I tried for 7 days straight to pay it through their online system, and their website was broken. None of the links would work. I tried calling, but the system would disconnect or have excessive wait times (being at work, my breaks only last so long). I actually took a day off and drove to their main office in Plano, TX, and their center was closed!! No notice! Now I have an additional $8 charge for late payment. And their phone system is STILL broken. They actually hang up on me after being in the "wait queue" for a "customer service rep" around 2 minutes after being told I was placed in the queue. This is ridiculous!! How can a "government entity" bill for services and not make available their services to pay on time, or even talk to a customer service representative EVEN IN PERSON to get this all sorted?? Who can we complain to for the lack of oversight on the NTTA?

NTTA - SCAMMERS!

I got a collections notice for $78 bucks. I NEVER received a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or any notice previously for it! So, I called NTTA, and they tell me that my tolltag no longer has a balance and those transactions didn't go through. They weren't able to take my payment and told me that I'd have to call the collection agency for them to handle it. I call the collection agency, and the lady takes my info and says that her system is running slow and would call me back on my cell phone in about 5 minutes. Not too long after that, she calls me and has all my info ready to process a payment. As I am about to give her my card number, she tells me that my balance is $3,600. To make a long story short, she wasn't able to tell me what I was paying for besides "FEES", and she sends me to a manager's voicemail. After a few hours of waiting for a call, I did some research on NTTA's website on what I have paid for and tried to figure out where $3,600 would come from! I got impatient and called them back. I finally get a manager on the phone. He has no more info than the last lady. I asked for an itemized bill and ask why I would only receive a collection notice for $78 instead of $3600. He's totally clues but emails me a spreadsheet of invoices within a 6 month period that gives very little info. Basically, it just had invoices numbers with recent dates. They were applying fees and all kinds of crap to invoices that were less than 90,60, & 30 days old. Most of these invoices shouldn't have even gone to collections yet. I've paid $139 dollars in tolls since June 2012, including invoices during those dates. I can't figure out how these invoices would get missed. I faxed him receipts of tolls I've paid during those dates. An hour later, I emailed him back and asked if he received my fax, and I asked if these tolls were the same ones I've paid. He replies with, "Call me back in a week."

They are scammers!! They aren't really sending invoices out and are pushing invoices to collections. They're saying I have about $40-50 in tolls (most within 90days), but I owe $3600. They don't even know if they've been paid.. CLUELESS!!!!

This needs to stop!

Bogus Charges

I have an account with NTTA with 2 cars, on 2011 received a package with almost 50 invoices from 2009 stating that I never paid for that car, I called NTTA and no one could tell me the history of my account telling me that they do not keep any information or customer account history.......and why I never received a notice before the package, I finally spoke to a very rude manager, she said that they did not had my address, how did they sent all of the invoices to my address? And never received an invoices for my 2nd car........Now im in collections. Im going to get all of my statements together and proved them that all of my money is going toward NTTA............This is a perfect Organized Crime

Bogus charges

I have had trouble with ever encounter I have had to endure with the North Texas Toll Authority. Yesterday 12/5/2012 I received a notice from their collection agency that I owed $347.05 from an unspecified time for a car I do not own for an account that is not mine (2597530-24899018). In the past I have sent in payment and only once have I gotten a response from an actual human saying that they received the payment. This is rediculous.

Charged for a tag I sold 3 years ago

I sold a car back during "Cash for Clunker" in 2009. That car was destroyed. Now, for the 4th time, NTTA has billed me for charges from an out of state tag with the same number. I've called repeatedly, given them the information. They say the problem is corrected but again this month I get another invoice requiring more long holds for "customer service". Why can't they fix THEIR mistake?

Organized Crime

The NTTA has left me both befuddled, and also broke. I'm so confused, and also so pissed off that I am not sure how to explain all the what's, why's and 'damned if I know's'. All I know is that they double and triple bill me, tell me that I am paid in full only to charge me more of what I have already paid, plus late fee's, administration fee's, processing fee's, sir charges... etc. I only owed $159. I paid that, then somehow owed $224 dollars, after the fact. After paying 'that', under protest, and was told I was all paid up... I then somehow magically owed close to $800!!!! They were kind enough to make me a "Deal that I could not refuse." They told me that if I purchased a $40 dollar 'Toll Tag' they would reduce my curious bill by $435.00!!!!!! They wouldn't remove the double billing from my balance owed, a balance paid!

I should have asked to speak with 'the God Father', but was afraid to say such. That might have cost me another grand or so...

Avoid the NTTA toll roads at all costs. They simply are not worth the penalties incurred for their pseudo-convenient use.

I've been hosed. I'm also afraid to use the $40 toll tag for fear 'that' will somehow turn into a $4,000 dollar bill owed....

Out-of-State & Delayed Billing

I reside in Oklahoma and my job required me to travel extensively out of DFW. I just received a bill (the first) for over $100 in tolls dating from January 2010 to August 2011. Had I received a bill in a timely manner, I could have expense these tolls to my company, which I am no longer employed with. I spoke to Cheri with the NTTA who informed me I should have called the NTTA and asked if I had any charges...seriously? Cheri also told me, no less than four times that there is no statute of limitations for the NTTA...awesome! It is obvious that there is also no such thing as common courtesy and simple respect with the NTTA either.

I am now unemployed and responsible for paying these tolls due to their inability to bill me in a timely fashion. So - Thank you NTTA - I needed to loose a few pounds anyways and not being able to buy groceries this month should help a lot.

Overcharging

I have been a NTTA Toll Tag user for over 10 years. I have always paid my tolls. Recently, I lost my job and the bank credit card that my tolls were billed to did not have enough money in my account to recharge my Toll Tag. At some point, my email address on file with NTTA was changed to my previous employers email and, of course, I had no access. The "we cannot charge your credit card" notices sent by NTTA went to that email address. I estimate the amount I have paid to NTTA over the 10+ years for the use of their toll roads to be approximately $15.000. Now, I have been sent to collections and for my monthly usage over the period they could not charge my credit card is only $347.00 but according to the collections agency I owe in excess of $3,000! I have talked to NTTA, who have always removed my additional charges, and they cannot help me now due to a new law the came into effect as of May 1, 2012 (of which I knew nothing about). Furthermore, I have tried to call the collection agency and no one answers the phone. After holding on for hours and listening to Kenny G, I receive a message "would you like to leave a message" and I do, but no one calls me back. I call and talk to Sonya (supervisor) at NTTA about this and she says she will send them an email to call me. They call me once and because I cannot answer at that time, I am back in the same position as before. Now, I go to the NTTA office and ask for help. I am told that they (NTTA) is "sorry" but they cannot help me anymore, their hands are tied by this new law (again, I know nothing about this new law). But, they (NTTA) are "sorry"! How can this happen? I am unemployed, trying to get a job and trying to pay everyone fairly. No other agency has such enormous late charges as NTTA. I have tried to not drive the toll roads because I am sick of what I have spent with them and of their treatment of a long-time consumer. However, at some points along the service roads I have been forced onto a toll road with no other option but to go forward. At this point, I am avoiding toll roads at all costs, it may take me longer to get there but I am protesting these outrageous charges and poor customer service. I guess I will go to jail, because I cannot get this resolved and I have do not have $3,000 + to pay the collection fees, admin fee, late fees, and who knows what else. This is gouging in the worst way, you have no other option because they have the power to ruin your life!. To put you in jail, to add court costs and more charges, and they (NTTA) cheerfully will fill up my Toll Tag again so I can keep driving. Well, who needs a Toll Tag when you are in jail?

Harsh fees for late payers

Amendment 8 - Cruel and Unusual Punishment. Ratified 12/15/1791.

"Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."

NTTA is connected with the government, since the Governor appoints its directors and it is given the land to build the roads and authority to collect tolls.

25$ dollar fee's on a 1$ toll = 2, 500% percent increase in toll.

Violating our 8th amendment with a 2500% markup

Is there any lawyer out there to help us????????????????????

NTTA

Yet another NTTA Horror story : - THIS WAS MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH NTTA (at total DISASTER!!)

In Oct 2011, I received an NTTA envelope that contained 4 ZipCash invoices. They contained transactions from 5 months to 2 YEARS old - dating from Oct 2009 thru May 2011. I contacted them and stated that I wasn't able to pay the full amount. They said I could pay what I could when I could. I never received ANY additional notices from them (I was working 60-80 weeks thru Dec 2011) and forgot to pay that first notice - I admit that. Then a collections letter arrived early May 2012. I immediately contact NTTA to find my bill now exceeded $720 - they had added $6.60 PER TRANSACTION. They stated that the subsequent notices were sent USPS Track-n-Trace (which does not provide delivery guarantee BTW) and were not returned, so I "seemingly ignored" them. I'm still trying to determine how one can "seemingly ignore" something one NEVER RECEIVED.

After some research and finding out that this has happened to MANY people, I posted my complaint on a DFW site. I was contacted by the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram Watchdog who went to NTTA with my case. NTTA used "sound bites" from my calls, inferring I refused to pay tolls (again, NOT TRUE) that I was in violation for non-payment, that I said I would pay and didn't (that was true) and inferred again that I ignored the notices - all to justify their position. During call with their Reps, it was implied that the late fees MIGHT (but no GUARANTEES) be waved if I purchased a Toll Tag. In good faith and believing what I was told, I purchased a TollTag - June 1st, 2012. A subsequent email (via Watchdog) with the NTTA spokesperson/Media Relations person (Susan Slupecki) stated that since I did not purchase a TollTag until after my ZipCash invoices when to collections, WAIVING FEES WOULD NOT HAVE APPLIED TO ME!! Does that sound like deliberate misinformation?

ALL NTTA communications were slanted in their favor, and I was not given the benefit of the doubt. How DOES one prove that one did NOT receive something via USPS? NTTA has not provided tracking numbers (so I can take this up with USPS) NOR have they provided copies of the late/Violation notices - ONLY the original invoices - which they have said that I can "clearly be heard" in recorded calls refusing to pay. NOT! I have never refused to pay TWO YEAR OLD tolls. I refused to pay the LATE FEES as I disputed them.

This is still not resolved, but they have the average customer over a barrel. This will be going to my State Representatives as soon as I can make that happen. This shouldn't happen to anyone.

over charging

I found this site by doing a search. I actually live out of state. I was visiting a relative who isn't doing so well in the dallas area. I just received an invoice dated 3/10/12 for toll charges from 12/11. That's right over a year old. I was actually in Dallas for a few months. They waited and sent ALL of the charges at ONCE. That's right, all 715.00 bucks worth. Can they not send them out in a timely matter? So, the bill was generated last month (march 2012) and has a due date of 4/10/12 and 4/12/12. I paid it. Seriously, this is one CROOKED business. I don't see how you guys that live here can put up with this sh!t. I'm glad we don't have this crap back home. IT'S GOD AWLFUL!
